Background

Despite relative stability and some economic growth, this East African country has not been able to build sufficient capacity in the health system to be able to offer comprehensive HIV/AIDS care or to contain the epidemic. The MdM project focuses on caring for HIV-positive people, and includes a component dealing with prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

Promoting sexual and reproductive health in adolescents

»ACTIVITIES
MdM has carried out maintenance and refurbishment work on health centres. Psychologists provide individual consultations and also organise educational workshops. Pregnant adolescents and teenage mothers are referred to the health centres. MdM is also working with schools to raise awareness of issues surrounding sexuality and reproduction among adolescents.

»OUTLOOK
MdM is looking to handover the activities to the reference health centres.We will also carry out advocacy work to ensure the long-term sustainability of the action, the teenage centres and the arrangements implemented.
