Syria
Background
As an indirect victim of the Chechen conflict, particularly affected by the massive flow of refugees, Dagestan has one of the poorest health records within the Russian Federation. Although a network of health services exists, the lack of equipment limits the population’s access to care. Women in rural areas are particularly vulnerable. MdM aims to help such women by supporting a women’s hospital.

»ACTIVITIES
Since November 2008, the MdM team has been preparing for the programme to start in early 2009. In partnership with the Syrian Red Crescent, MdM aims to support two primary healthcare centres in the Alep region by providing medical equipment, strengthening clinic teams and evaluating mental health needs.
»OUTLOOK
MdM will set this new project in motion. After the initial implementation phase, we will go on to evaluate and set up a new phase of the project in order to continue to support the vulnerable Iraqi population.
